Now that I am trying alternative methods for treating my anxiety and stress, should I discontinue my prescribed medications?

    Absolutely Not!

You should never stop taking any medications without seeking the advice of the Doctor who prescribed the medication.

There are several reasons for this, one is that you may have to taper of the drug. If you quit cold turkey you may end up with severe withdrawals from the meds.

Another reason is that even though you are feeling better it may be a combination of your new found techniques and the medicine together that is helping you out.

I have found this to be true with my Lexapro subscription. Me and my Doctor have gotten the dose down to half of a pill of the lowest dose available and with my other self therapies that I do I am feeling wonderful now. At least I am past the whole Xanax issue.

I guess what I am saying is that only your Doctor can tell you if you should stop taking your medicine or not.

Can anxiety and stress cause dizziness?

Yes, you can experience dizzy spells from high anxiety and stressful situations. This dizziness may be caused by different things depending on your body chemistry.

Some people experience increased heart rate, rapid breathing and almost hyperventilating like symptoms when faced with high anxiety or extreme stress. These symptoms can also cause you to experience dizzy spells.

Now other people may have the complete opposite reaction during these stressing times. They may experience slower heart rate and slower breathing and also decreased blood pressure which can also cause dizziness.

Worst case scenario a person may even black out. I highly advise that if you are experiencing extreme dizziness or blackouts that you contact your Doctor immediately!
