Reduce Anxiety By Staying Focused

Posted by Dave on February 4, 2010

I have to tell you that I planned on writing this blog post about an hour and a half ago. Guess what? I got sidetracked by the time stealing monster.

Yep, that’s right. That dreaded monster that sidetracks you starting with an email, than a click on a link and you are off. One click leads to another and next thing you know you forgot what your purpose was. Now I have 7 minutes left to complete my daily goal. I will get it done but my point is about how I lost focus on my task and now I am experiencing excess anxiety because did not stay focused.

That is the downside to technology is that you can easily get lost in cyberspace for hours if you don’t stay focused on your task.

So Stay focused and you will reduce your anxiety and stress.

Business Stress and Anxiety

Posted by Dave on January 30, 2010

I have spent a lot of time talking about anxiety and stress on a personal level but today I am going to talk about the Business owner. Imagine for a minute what kind of stress a Business owner has.

A small business or entrepreneurial business would have anxiety and stress related to finding customers, stress of earning enough to pay the bills, How about the stress of not having time to spend with the family? AS Business owner also has to deal with the anxiety of solicitors, suppliers, not to mention accountants ad people etc… Who is going to take out the trash? Who is going to clean the office? Who makes the coffee? When you are an Entrepreneur, that just might be you.

A larger Business owner has a lot of similar anxiety and stress but also has the additional anxiety and stress relating to dealing with employees. Maybe someone needs to be disciplined or even fired. Just hiring someone can cause stress.

I myself am an Entrepreneur and one of the ways that I reduce my stress and anxiety as well as free up some time is by Outsourcing. It is cheaper for me to pay someone to write an article or press release than it is for me to spend 2-3 hours trying to get it done myself.

I am also going to be hiring a Virtual assistant to take some more of the edge off so I can just deal with what I love, Helping people.

There is an awesome place to go and get a free outsourcing CD that my good friend Jeff Mills put together for you. I save 10+ hours a week by just utilizing outsourcing for all of my writing, Except my blog…. That is still me.

Get your FREE Outsourcing CD Here!

Outsourcing can really help you reduce a lot of the anxiety and stress you experience as a Business owner.

Hypnosis For Anxiety and Stress Relief

Posted by Dave on January 24, 2010

Some of you who have attended my teleseminar series already know that one of the keys to overcoming my anxiety was with Hypnosis. I would like to share a little bit about my experience if you don’t mind…

I met a Certified Hypnotherapist who was visiting at a local BNI meeting that I belong to. After the meeting I asked him if he handles anxiety and stress issues as I wanted to get off of my prescription drugs. He said that he does deal with anxiety and stress but he recommended that I see the Doctor to discuss whether going off my Meds was the best decision or not. I respected that honesty.

I prepaid for 5 sessions at about three hours each. I was very skeptical and nervous about what was going to happen. He assured me that it was not like a stage hypnotist and told me that the first session was just kind of a getting to know each other session and afterwords I would be very relaxed. He was right, I felt great!

The next session he taught me how to use self-hypnosis myself and we bagan to dig into some of what was holding me back. My third session was pretty intense and we were able to get to some of the core issues that I was having and some of the childhood issues that I had kept buried.

Well the forth session was definitely the hardest session I went through but yielded the best results. We actually got right to the heart of my issues and brought them right out onto the table and dealt with them one at a time. I forgave everyone that wronged me and I learned that I am a great person and that I will always be there to protect myself. I also had to forgive myself for all of the bad things I had done in my life that were causing me to feel guilt and holding me back from living a fulfilling life.

I never had to go back for my final session yet, but I just may go for it one day just to chat.

I would like to take a minute and recommend a great Hypnotherapist that I know can definitely change your life. his name is Jim Katsoulis and you can check out his website at: http://crushanxietyandstress.com/jim

Face Your Anxiety

Posted by Dave on January 18, 2010

While anxiety can make you feel very uncomfortable and scared, you really need to face your anxiety if you are going to beat it.

The more you face your anxiety and overcome the easier it becomes and the less severe your anxiety attacks are.

One way to face your anxiety is to put yourself into a situation where you know you are going to experience high anxiety. For example: if you hate crowds, put yourself into a situation where it will be crowded. Tell yourself that these people are not in control of me. They really don’t even notice me. Maybe you just need to sit down on a bench in the mall and watch the people as they walk around.

As you do this you will begin telling yourself that these people are not a threat, nor do they care about me sitting here on my bench. This will be tough at first but will get easier as you practice it more and more.

Can You Really Be Anxiety Free?

Posted by Dave on January 16, 2010

The answer to this question is actually no, you can never truly be anxiety free.

The reason I say that is that there are lots of things that cause anxiety and stress and they are not always bad things. For example, suppose you decide to get married. While this is going to be the best day of your life, there really is a huge amount of anxiety and stress placed on you but it is not necessarily bad stress.

You will feel anxiety when you purchase your dream home, when you purchase a car or have a child.

You can however learn to take control of your anxiety and knock that bad stress down to a manageable level. If you feel you are in control, that will reduce your anxiety immensely.

3 Christmas Shopping Tips To Reduce Anxiety

Posted by Dave on December 14, 2009

Now that Christmas season is upon us, I have put together some tips to help reduce anxiety and still get your Christmas shopping done.

  • The first tip and most obvious is to avoid the stores and crowds completely. You can do this by doing your Christmas shopping over the Internet and having the gifts either shipped to you or the person you are giving the gift to.
  • The second tip you can do to get your Christmas shopping done and reduce holiday anxiety is to get up early and hit the stores right when they open. By doing your shopping early in the day when the store first opens you can usually avoid the regular crowds that are there later in the day. Of course the closer it gets to Christmas the more crowded the stores get no matter what time of day.
  • The third tip is to have a friend or relative do the shopping for you. A great way to do this is to go online and find a picture and description of each gift that you want to purchase. Print out the picture and description and what store it can be found at and ask a friend or relative to pick these items up for you while they are doing their Christmas shopping.

I hope that you found these tips helpful in reducing the Holiday stress for you this Christmas season and also to help you to avoid an anxiety attack.

Tip for Holiday Stress

Posted by Dave on December 6, 2009

Today when I was shopping I realized that I was about to become overwhelmed. You know, that feeling when your heart starts racing, I found myself wringing my hands and starting to pace.

It was then that it dawned on me, with today’s technology I don’t need to battle the crowds during this time of year.

That’s right, I can do pretty much all of my christmas shopping from the Internet.

What an awesome tool and it is perfect for those of us who still want to Christmas shop but have problems with the anxiety associated with the crowds.

Remember that if you are shopping online, you need to get it done soon to make sure it arrives before Christmas.

Overcoming Anxiety And Panic Attacks

Posted by Dave on November 24, 2009

Anxiety in some people’s lives goes far beyond simple stress and worries. There are times when anxiety becomes severe and can even lead to panic attacks. If you have ever experienced this disorder, you are likely on a quest to find methods for overcoming anxiety in your life.

The secret to overcoming anxiety begins with education. In order to treat or cure anything you must know what, how and even why to some extent. Sometimes simply knowing more about a disorder like anxiety goes a long way toward tempering the symptoms, because you know exactly what it is you are facing.

What is Anxiety Disorder?

Anxiety disorder differs from typical anxiety in intensity and application. Everyone has worry to some degree or another in their life, however when that worry becomes obsessive or unrealistic there is a good chance anxiety disorder or panic attacks are the root cause.

Your worries and thoughts are about the same things as many other people but when you have anxiety you will take the concerns to a completely new level. For example if you call up a friend and your call is not immediately returned you begin to agonize over the relationship, wondering what is wrong.

How or Why

There is some evidence that panic attacks and anxiety are hereditary in nature. The only question is whether this effect is genetic or simply the natural inclination toward the disorder that comes from living with a fearful parent. Either way, studies have shown that children living with anxiety-ridden adults are more likely to experience the affliction than other children are.

When searching for ways of overcoming anxiety you may be surprised to find that panic disorders are often associated with timidity. Often times people who never stand up for him or herself or are constantly trying to make peace find the emotions that have built up over many years finally need an outlet, and it may be in a panic attack or anxiety issue.

Overcoming

Whatever the cause and effect relationship there is, generally one thing on the mind of the sufferer and that is the road to overcoming anxiety. There are many ways to accomplish this feat and you may find one or more very helpful. Most of the time overcoming anxiety comes from compound efforts.

Medication is one way your doctor may suggest for overcoming anxiety. Generally speaking, you will be placed on either a tranquilizer type medication or an anti-depressant. Many doctors are shying away from the first type of medication because of high risks for abuse and addiction. Anti-depressants can be helpful but they do take some time to get into your system and take effect.

One of the best methods for overcoming anxiety and panic attacks is through cognitive behavioral therapy. This practice involves a licensed therapist guiding you through new thought processes and behavioral modifications. This can be accomplished with several differing methods including aversion.

Finally

It is vitally important that you find a method for overcoming anxiety and panic attacks in your life. Your family will benefit, but most importantly, you will be able to find joy in life again. In addition, you may be able to circumvent more serious complications such as agoraphobia, by overcoming anxiety and or panic attacks.

Using Meditation For Overcoming Social Anxiety Disorder

Posted by Dave on November 16, 2009

Anxiety and stress have a tendency to be truly difficult to deal with and they can put a lot of pressure on the mind. Upon experiencing the severity of the problem that stress and anxiety can cause, it is no surprise that so many will look towards means of alleviating the problem. However, the steps people will take to deal with such issues are often worse than the problem itself. Or, in some cases, such steps can outright compound the problem. Such is the case with using prescription pills to treat anxiety. These pills may provide a temporary calmness but they never get to the root cause of the issues that create anxiety. Additionally, prescription pills possess the potential to harm the internal organs which is certainly not something anyone would wish to deal with.

Thankfully, as more and more people are becoming aware of the dangers associated with modern anti-anxiety drugs, people are also becoming more aware of older, traditional methods known for their ability to reverse many of the problems associated with high anxiety. One such method is the concept of meditation.

Meditation sometimes gets a proverbial bad rap as well. This is because it has a tendency to be lumped in with a number of less than helpful “New Age” concepts that some may find more odd than helpful. However, meditation is certainly not as obtuse as many think. It is simply a form of exercise that works on strengthening the mind as opposed to the physical body. Often, with a little practice and dogged determination, it is not as tough as some assume to reap huge benefits from meditation sessions.

On a basic level, meditation involves calming oneself, emptying the mind, and allowing negative and stressful thoughts to exit. Meditation can be performed seated, lying down, or even walking. The key with all forms of meditation is that the mind empties itself out and there is no attempt to think about those things which can make a person anxious or upset. For those that cannot keep their mind emptied, it may be best to meditate on a Zen koan which is a riddle with no particular answer. What is the purpose of these riddles? They are intended to help you learn about yourself and reach into your inner thoughts. And, of course, they keep your mind occupied which prevents it from dealing with hidden stress and anxiety.

Over time, the effects of meditation begin to reveal themselves and they are often quite positive. The mind will start to be less cluttered and the psychic noise and running thoughts that are at the root of all anxiety will slowly calm down and disappear. This does not mean the serious problems related to the anxiety condition will go away. However, the ability to deal with such problems may very well be improved since the mind will not be in a position where it is at the mercy of such aggravation. Best of all, meditation can take place in durations as small as ten minutes and still have positive effects. That is why it remains so highly recommended for this in need of a helpful treatment method.
