Your Surroundings Can Effect Your Stress, Anxiety and Self Esteem

Posted by Dave on February 7, 2010

Believe it or not everything around effects the way you feel. Your surroundings play a vital role in your Anxiety, stress and self esteem.

Something as simple as having your house cleaned and a good calming candle scent burning can help you tremendously in reducing stress and anxiety. If you have cluttered up stacks of mail or to do lists it can cause you to feel disorganized and bring your anxiety level up as you are constantly reminded that you need to take care of it, Having laundry lying around in piles waiting to be folded and put away are constant reminders to you that you need to get it done so that causes you anxiety and stress.

Maybe you are to busy to get these small items done, but how about hiring someone once a week to come in and get you organized. That is what I am doing this week is having a office assistant come over and we are going to discuss her getting my office and filing organized as well as train me on using Quickbooks to keep track of my money. The small cost she charges is well worth it so I don’t have to have these things in the back of my mind distracting me from my business duties.

How can you have anything but low self esteem with a disorganized house, clutter everywhere, unpleasant odors and being ashamed to have guests come over? You really must get your home and yourself organized if you are to build up your self esteem. Get some nice clothes. You dont need to spend a lot, just go to a second hand clothing store like Goodwill and shop around. Don’t forget about Garage sales. I have found some fantastic deals on very nice antique furniture at garage sales.

Well anyway I think that I have made my point here. You can change some simple things in your life to make a huge impact on your anxiety, stress and self esteem.

I happened to be going through my pictures and found this beautiful picture of our backyard right after the first snowfall of the year:

Reduce Anxiety And Stress With A Massage

Posted by Dave on January 22, 2010

Today is my favorite day of the month :-) Why is that? Today is the day that I treat myself to a one hour massage. I have a massage every month as my treat to help with reducing anxiety and stress.

With all of the work I have been doing with my teleseminar and my other projects, I was starting to build up a little tension in my upper back by my shoulder blades and neck. I had a very nice massage with hot and cold stones and some very relaxing music. The massage table was heated, the oil was heated and I could just feel the stress melting away minute by minute.

I would highly suggest that if you have the means, Find a good massage therapist in your area and treat yourself at least once a month.

You have nothing to lose, except your stress :-)

This is my monthly reward for working so hard and I enjoy the relaxing atmosphere…

1 Small Change To Reduce Stress

Posted by Dave on October 29, 2009

Last December I decided to make 1 small change in my life and it has made a huge impact on reducing my stress level.

Before I tell you what it is, I want you to think about what happens to our minds when we are constantly bombarded with negative messages and emotions. You are absolutely right, we start putting out negative vibes ourselves and even start feeling down or depressed.

There is something most of us do for 1/2 hour every day that actually brings us down and stirs up unhealthy emotions. Imagine having 1/2 hour extra every day to spend with your family. That comes out to 182 hours extra every year!!! That is 22 extra 8 hour days in one year!!!

There is 1 problem though and that is that most of you will not do this 1 small thing. I tell you that I have been in a better mood and good things have naturally been flowing towards me since I stopped doing this one small thing.

Okay, I have kept you in suspense long enough :-)

What I stopped doing every day that has made a profound change in my everyday life is…

I Stopped Watching The News!

You heard me right, I have not watched the news since December of 2008. All that is on the news is negative messages that everyone feeds off of and it drives everyone down.

I would love to hear your comments on this, please post them below.

In my next post I will discuss some of the problems we have today that could be stopped if people were not being exposed to the negative stories every day.

Reducing a Student's Stress Level

Posted by Dave on October 9, 2009

One natural part of a student’s life is their high stress level. A student’s rising stress level is something that usually happens to them every day. They experience challenges and worries at home and school, in their community and even within their own peer group.

In order to go about reducing a student’s stress level, it would be well for them to learn some stress reduction techniques. Here are some ideas that students came up with as ways to go about reducing a the stress level:

Avoid caffeine – Caffeine can make you hyper and nervous
Get ample amounts of rest and sleep – Not enough sleep can cause you to not think clearly and feel very overwhelmed at even menial tasks
Avoid, alcohol, drugs and tobacco – These substances enhance the anxiety and stress levels you are already experiencing
Learn relaxation techniques – Techniques such as deep breathing, meditation and muscle relaxation can make a huge impact on a Anxiety or Panic attack.

Remember that if you don’t take action to try and reduce stress you will eventually escalate into panic and anxiety attacks or even depression.

Overcoming Anxiety and Reducing Stress

Posted by Dave on October 5, 2009

Lets talk a little bit about overcoming anxiety and stress management. Stress and anxiety is a learned feeling reaction to an event. Let me explain what I am talking about.

Lets say you wake up in the morning and it is raining. If you have to drive to work in heavy traffic, you might say to yourself “God, I hate the rain! Now the drive to work is really going to suck!”. You have already set yourself up for high anxiety and a stressful drive to work.

Now lets say you woke up to the rain and said to yourself “This rain is great! We really needed it. Boy it really smells good whenever it rains out.” You have now eliminated that initial feeling of anxiety and you are most likely going to have a less stressful drive to work.

If stress and anxiety were caused by events instead of feelings, we would all feel the same when it rains.

Changing the way we feel is key in overcoming anxiety and reducing stress.
